Located about half an hour from the town of Chukai, Yak Yah River is famous for the fact that it is home to one of the biggest firefly colonies in Malaysia. As dusk fell, flashing fireflies can be found throughout the 13 kilometres length of the river, although the best ‘lights’ display is said to be about 5 kilometres from the jetty.
The best time to see the dazzling display of lights is between the months of July until September. Thousands, if not millions of fireflies get together, creating is a wondrous symphony of lights that is truly a sight to behold.
